The 2023 Grammys: A Fashionable Recap

Sure, the Grammys are probably rigged. Whatever they are, let’s not ignore the matter at hand: Artisanship via fashion.
Sunday night rounded up some of the most talented musicians known to the world. We got a taste of alluring performances (yes, Steve Lacy, we mean you), but we were also given eye candy to talk about for the rest of the week. Whether the looks were sweet or sour is for you to decide. We’re just here for the sweet stuff.
Coming in first – and hot is Adele. Now, gentle disclaimer, by no means do we think she looked the best out of everyone at the Grammys, but the cadence of her dress speaks to the sophistication we favor. It was simple…and red; ergo, divine.

No one seems to be talking about it much, but Laverne Cox did not let us down. If anything, her look let us know that she came to entice and enchant onlookers – and that, she did. We’re especially fond of the Egyptian deity detailing on her dress done by Kim Kasses. In conjunction with her hair and jewelry, the dress was fully activated. Undeniably, the African homage is what flattered us the most.

Up next, we have Harry Styles. The “Best Album” victor took self-expression to another level by flaunting his highly colored (and sequined) Egonlab x Swarovski jumpsuit. We won’t lie, the look is an acquired taste, but we’re here for a good statement piece and bold moment. Let’s put it this way: It has a certain je ne sais quoi.

Alternatively, we very much liked what Dr. Dre had to offer. Aside from the prestige of winning the Global Impact Award, Dre also earned our attention with his simple, yet sophisticated attire. Simplicity avoids miscommunication and there was no doubt about the occasion Dre showed up to. In Layman’s term, Dr. Dre came dressed to win.

Samara Joy didn’t hesitate to Jazz things up Sunday night. Winning two Grammys grants her a well-deserved spotlight in our catalog. While her dress and overall poise were astounding, what rose us to our feet was her elegant updo. Contrary to popular belief, updos are not outdated. They’re still alive and super tasteful. We’re grateful for the reminder.

One of our favorite moments of the night was when Bonnie Raitt won best song of the year – we weren’t expecting it either. Not because it was our favorite song. We’ve never even heard it before. However, the grace she exhibited when collecting her award was what made us adore her presence. Raitt’s mostly black attire communicated to us, at least, that she was attempting to display herself as mostly “under the radar”. But c’mon, are hidden talents ever really hidden? Raitt’s certainly wasn’t and we’re happy about that.

Finally, our Honorable Mention: Dwayne Johnson and Lauren Hashian. The couple that “slays” together, st…you know the nauseating rest. Seriously, we loved their look. The juxtaposition between Johnson’s gold suit and Hashian’s Silver dress reminds us that opposites attract and keep each other leveled. After all, good things come in pairs.
